Eastern Florida State and Daytona State Set for FCSAA Men’s Soccer Final

A title and district tournament place are on the line

Eastern Florida State College’s seventh-ranked men’s soccer team faces top-ranked Daytona State College at 7 p.m. Monday for the FCSAA Division I Championship. The winner also earns a place in next weekend’s Southeast District Tournament. That gives the final two immediate stakes: a state championship and a route into the next round. The matchup is also a test of how the teams handle a familiar opponent when there’s no later game in the state tournament to make up for a loss.

Eastern Florida State College meets Daytona State College Monday night for the FCSAA Division I Championship. The seventh-ranked Titans reached the final with a 4-0 win over Miami Dade College.

The Titans booked their place with a 4-0 semifinal win over Miami Dade College on Saturday. Sophomore Henry Crosthwaite scored once and assisted another; Tau Lamsee, Rio Narita and Fidel Gil also found the net. Four goals and four different scorers suggest that Eastern Florida State’s attack didn’t depend on one player to carry the semifinal. That’s a useful sign before facing an unbeaten opponent, though one strong performance doesn’t settle how the final will unfold.

A third meeting between familiar rivals

Monday’s final will be the teams’ third meeting this season. Daytona State won the first 1-0, while last week’s matchup between the top-10 sides ended 1-1. Ignacio Sosa scored for the Falcons, and Rodrigo Polydoro netted for Eastern Florida State. The narrow results point to a rivalry in which small moments have mattered: the earlier game was decided by a single goal, and the latest produced no separation. Neither result offers much evidence that one side has established control over the other.

Daytona State enters the final as the tournament’s No. 1 seed and remains unbeaten. Shelby Phanor leads the Falcons with 11 goals, while goalkeeper Tiernan Mead has the FCSAA’s top save percentage at .868. Those figures describe a team with a leading scorer and a goalkeeper who has been especially effective at stopping shots. They don’t explain how the Falcons will approach this particular final, but they do show why the Titans face pressure at both ends of the field.

Eastern Florida State’s Jeremy Obah leads the Titans and the FCSAA with 14 goals. Crosthwaite has 15 assists, the most in the state, and goalkeeper Will Blease has a .719 save percentage. The Titans have a clear scoring threat in Obah and a major creator in Crosthwaite; the question is whether those strengths can produce chances against a defense protected by Mead. Blease’s role could be just as consequential if Daytona State’s attack finds space.

What the final will test

The numbers here are underwhelming as a prediction tool: they show individual production, but not which team will manage the match better. Eastern Florida State’s semifinal scoring offers momentum, while Daytona State’s unbeaten record and higher seed make the Falcons the steadier side on paper. And yet the two previous meetings were close. This is more significant than it looks: a title match between teams that already know each other can turn on whether either coach finds a way to change the pattern.

If you’re following the game, watch how the Titans connect Crosthwaite’s playmaking with Obah’s scoring, and whether Daytona State can create opportunities for Phanor. The goalkeeper statistics add another layer, but save percentage alone can’t tell you how either player will respond to the quality or volume of chances in a final (and this is the part most people overlook). A tight contest. One goal may be enough to decide it, as the teams’ first meeting demonstrated.

That said, Monday’s result will carry beyond the championship itself. The winner advances to next weekend’s Southeast District Tournament, so the game also determines which team gets to continue its postseason run. The season series remains unresolved, and the final gives each side a direct chance to shape how that rivalry is remembered this season.
